PIN
Upon registration the last four digits of your telephone number is your PIN. To change your PIN, visit the Checkout Desk.
Renew Items
- My Account: Click Items Out, check the boxes by each title and click Renew selected items at the top of the list, or Renew all Items on the bottom of the list. New due dates will be listed. Some items may not be available for renewing. See limits here.
- Call 847.590.8706. Have your library card number, PIN and barcode numbers for items you wish to renew.
- At the Checkout Desk with your library card.
- If you have trouble renewing items, call 847.459.4100, ext. 1 during library hours.
Return Items
Return materials to these locations:
- Main Library (Drop boxes in front and by the drive-up window; vestibule, during library hours)
- Indian Trails Branch (99 E. Palatine Rd., Prospect Heights)
- Alcott Community Center (530 Bernard Dr., Buffalo Grove)
- Vernon Area Public Library Drop box (197 McHenry Rd., Buffalo Grove)
Holds
- Select where to pick up a hold in the drop-down menu in the catalog
- Indian Trails Public Library District (main library)
- Indian Trails Drive-Up (main library)
- Indian Trails Branch (99 E. Palatine Rd., Prospect Heights)
- Members are notified by phone, text or email when holds are ready for pickup.
- Holds are held for seven days.
- Choose Drive-Up if you want to pick up reserved materials at the drive-up window. Present your library card to the staff member at the window.
Vacation Loan
Vacation loans are available for six weeks on some library materials. Call 847.459.4100, ext. 1.
Fees
Fees are only assessed for items that are lost, damaged or long overdue. Learn more about fees.
Fine-Free
The library migrated to a new catalog and went fine-free in late 2019. Material renews automatically up to three times if no one has placed a hold on the material.

It may take up to two days to see the items off your account. Not to worry, fines do not accrue at the library.
Can reciprocal borrowers check out material at ITPLD?
Yes, reciprocal borrowers may check out material. They may also call 847.459.4100, ext. 3 and place holds on items. Holds can also be placed through the catalog.
Can I donate used books?
Yes! Please bring them in boxes or bags, clearly marked book donations. Donations may be left in the vestibule of the main library.
