Vote-smart.org:
lists your state and national representatives and candidates for those offices. Shows candidates' positions on major issues, or whether they opted out of letting you know where they stand.

Publicintegrity.org:
founded by veteran TV newscaster Charles Lewis who saw the need for well-documented investigative research on national and world issues.

Snopes.com:
well-regarded urban legends site, it also investigates email stories of outlandish behavior by political figures, groups or organizations.
