Interlibrary loan borrowing service provides Indian Trails Public Library District cardholders in good standing access to materials from other libraries within the United States.

Interlibrary loan borrowing is free unless the supplying library charges a fee.

We request materials from libraries that lend for free. However, some items are available only from a library that charges a fee. If you are willing to pay a fee for a specific item, please indicate the maximum amount on your request.

Replacement cost and processing fees incurred as a result of loss or damage are the responsibility of the patron who checks out the item.

A $1.00 fee is charged to your account for each not-picked-up item.

What May Be Borrowed

Books, Cassettes, Compact Discs, CD-ROMs, Magazines, Microfilm, Musical Scores and Videocassettes are available for loan. We request Cassettes, Compact Discs and CD-ROMs from Illinois libraries only. We cannot request materials published within the last four months. For article reprints, patrons may contact our public services staff.

A maximum of five interlibrary loan items may be checked out on a patron account.

Placing a Request

In Person: A staff member will take your request at the first or second floor public service desk.

Via the Internet: Access the OCLC FirstSearch Database inside the library or from home.

• Choose First Search from the list of databases.
• Enter search terms to find an item.
• On the Detailed Record screen, click the ILL button or Borrow This Item From Another Library.
• Fill out the request form.
• Click the Submit button.

Users who register in OCLC FirstSearch may view the status of their electronic requests. Register via My Account and enter your library card number in User Name. The system allows only one account for an email address. Use the Resource Sharing tab to view your requests.

Delivery times vary, depending on availability. A staff member will notify you when your item arrives. We now offer Library Express delivery via courier to your door for a $1.00 fee. If you would like this service, enter your delivery address on the request form and choose the Library Express option under Pick-up item at: menu.

If your request is not filled within two months and if "Date Needed" does not specify otherwise, we will notify you that it has been cancelled.
