Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library is currently in the process of merging with the Foundation and Children's Advocates to form an enhanced fundraising group for the Indian Trails Library. If you interested in learning how you can become part of this new organization (slated to launch in spring of 2015), please contact Susan Dennison. Volunteers are always welcome to assist the Friends with its book sales.

Be a Friend and Make a Difference

The Friends of the Indian Trails Library want you! With just a few spare hours you can make your library stronger by helping sort donated materials for Used Book Sales.

The Used Book Sale offers
bargans in fiction and nonfiction.

  • Helping set-up, staff, and clean-up during Used Book Sales.

  • Preparing membership campaign mailings.

  • Distributing Friends publicity to your family, friends and neighbors.

  • Contacting prospective members and encouraging them to become active in the Friends.

  • Volunteering to work on special projects which enhance the quality of service at the library.

Who are the Friends?

The Friends of the Indian Trails Library District are an independent organization comprised of library district members who help raise funds for library services and programs by

  • Raising awareness of library programs and services.

  • Presenting programs to promote library use.

  • Sponsoring fundraising activities.

  • Acting as liaisons to individuals and groups in the community.

  • Serving as library advocates in the community and at the local, state and federal levels.

Past gifts from the Friends include:

  • Furnishings for the large meeting room

  • Display case

  • English as a Second Language materials

  • Materials in foreign languages

  • Seating for the adult quiet reading area

  • Two automatic external defibrillators (AEDs)

  • Transit Van

  • National Library Week Programs

  • Prizes for the annual Summer Reading Program

  • Sponsorship of visiting authors

Become a Member!

(January 1 through December 31)
  • Individual membership: $3 per person

  • Family membership: $6 per family (includes children living at home, under 18 years of age)

Used Book Sales

There are many great bargains in the Friends’ Used Book Sale Room on the first floor of the library with prices beginning at just 25 cents. Please pay for items at the Check Out Desk.

The Friends also hold two used book sales during the year where a larger selection of used books are available for purchase.

Used Book Sale Hours

Friday Preview Night: 5 - 8:30 p.m. (Free to members; $3 admission for non-members, good toward a Friends annual membership) Numbered entry tickets will be available to members beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Friday Preview Nights.

Saturday: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (free admission)

Sunday: 12 - 3 p.m. (free admission)

Are your books and DVDs looking for a new home?

Drop off your gently used, but well-loved books, DVDs, and Blu-rays with the Circulation Staff. Don't forget your tax deduction form when you drop off your items.

Before you donate...

  1. All items must be in good condition with only normal wear and tear.

  2. Donations should be boxed and given to the Circulation staff.

  3. Once donated, all items become the property of the Indian Trails Library District and may be added to the library's collection, used for the Friends of Library book sales, or disposed if in keeping with the library's policies and needs.

  4. All proceeds from the sale of donated items will be used to fund library initiatives.

We're sorry, but we can't accept the following:

  • Computer Software that requires a licence to use

  • Encyclopedias

  • Magazine

  • Textbooks

  • Toys and puzzles

  • Cassettes, video cassettes, any home-recorded AV media, or media with out the original containers.

  • Damaged items (missing book covers, water damage, mildew etc.)

A receipt for your donation will be provided upon request. However, the Friends of the Library cannot provide exact counts of large donations or estimates of the value of donated materials. Please consult your tax accountant and Internal Revenue Service rules.
